Is Nutrition Important for Good Vision?
An ophthalmologists
suggested that “Some nutrients keep the eye healthy overall, and some have been
found to reduce the risk of eye diseases,”
The first ingredient on your multivitamin table is
Vitamin A which keeps your eyes healthy. Deficiency of vitamin A can cause night vision
problems, severe dry eyes, which can lead to eye infections and vision loss.
Vitamin A plays an important role in the bone growth which helps you to fight
with pink eye symptoms and makes your immune system strong.
Carrots are a well-known source of vitamin A. Sweet
potatoes provide even more vitamin A, Dr. Taylor said. “A sweet potato has more
than 200% of the daily dose of vitamin A doctors recommend.” Fruits, including
cantaloupe and apricots, can be a good source of vitamin A.
How much
vitamin A do you need each day?
According to U.S. RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance)
for teen boys it should be 900 micrograms which is equal to 3000 International
Units and for teen girls it should be 733 micrograms.
Research suggests vitamin A reduces the risk of
arising cataracts and macular degeneration in the future and decreases the loss
of vision.
But excess intake of Vitamin A can lead to toxicity which
includes headache, loss of appetite, dizziness and skin changes.
