Are there any Exercises for Glaucoma Patients?

Are there any Exercises for Glaucoma Patients?

Any kind of aerobic exercise (such as walking, swimming, biking or working out on stationary machines) is good for your heart and blood flow, which in turn is great for glaucoma patients. If aerobic exercise is good for your brain then automatically it will be good for glaucoma. If you start doing the exercise you can find the greater difference in eye pressure after diagnosis. Weights with low level are good and patients with mild cases of glaucoma can do their regular weight training. The most important one to remember while lifting the weights is you need to breathe.

People can reduce their vision loss from glaucoma by controlling their blood pressure, maintaing healthy weight and being physically active. Following these can also help to prevent diabetes and other health problems which will be a high risk for glaucoma. Recent evidence indicates that regular exercise can reduce eye pressure.

Those who begin to start the exercise should discuss with their eye doctor at what intensity is it safe to exercise. Some forms of glaucoma such as closed angle glaucoma may not ne amenable to effect the exercise and other form of glaucoma is pigmentary glaucoma may actually develop a temporary rise in eye pressure after exercising.

And remember--- Exercise does not replace medications or doctor visit.
